Mrs.
Kubiak’s 5th grade class
2009-2010
SSR-The
entire school is participating daily in SSR
(Sustained Silent Reading).
This can be one more tool for developing
lifelong readers.
This is addition to our regular reading
class where we are reading stories from our
Reading series.
We are working on our comprehension,
spelling, vocabulary, and study skills. We are
working on improving our decoding skills and our
fluency.
We visit
our library often.
Our next book report will celebrate an
important African American.
Our book report will include “trading
roles” with the subject.
We
are preparing for the ISAT’s.
In our English class, we are working with
many aspects of the writing process.
We are working on our sentence structure,
sequencing skills, and making predictions.
We are reviewing the various parts of
speech and working with them daily.
In
our Math class, we are also preparing for the
ISAT’s. We continue to work on our problem solving skills and many
other math applications.
In Social Studies, we are learning about the original
thirteen colonies.
We are learning about who came to the new
land, why they came, and what the challenges and
benefits were to coming here.
In our Science class, we have been learning about our
solar system. We will have an assessment in the
very near future.
In
the computer lab, we are focusing on the Study
Island programs. These will also help us with our
ISAT preparation.
Wolcott school has recently adopted a new behavior
plan. PBIS,
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, is a
proactive system to help all students in school
achieve social, emotional, and academic success.
The purpose is to establish a school climate where
appropriate behavior is the norm. This new program
has been well received and the rewards are a
terrific incentive.
Thanks
to the parents for their support and open lines of
communication.
Please be sure to sign the homework
assignment book.
