Mrs. Pettiford, 4th Grade

Looking Ahead to April and May

Ms. Pettiford’s  Plans

In reading, we are finishing up with unit four in the text. We will soon be moving on to another novel Gone Away Lake by Elizabeth Enright. After that it will be back into the text to complete Unit Five. Then we will finish up the year with the novel King of the Wind by Marguerite Henry. We will be concentrating on vocabulary while reading this book.  Skills we will be covering between now and the end of the year are sequence, inferences, vocabulary, and important and unimportant information.

In math, some of the children are finding out that they still need to practice their multiplication tables. I can tell, however, that many of them have been doing just that. Three cheers for all their hard work. We have finished up the first chapters on multiplication and division. Multiplication tables are equally important for division, so please practice, practice, practice.  Next it will be geometry and fractions.

In English, we have finished up with punctuation and capitalization and will be moving on to pronouns and adverbs.  Writing will also be an important part of April and May’s plans.

In Science we will be getting back into the textbook beginning with the chapter on Earth Science. Then it’s on to space and weather.

In Social Studies we will be studying the states in groups starting with the New England States.

Please don’t hesitate to call me if you have any questions. I am always glad to hear from parents. Remember, the end of the year is upon us, but we still have a lot of work to do. Hopefully the children and myself will be successful at keeping our minds on business.
