MRS.
SEKULA’S MAY NEWSLETTER
This
month brings a close to our first grade school year!
The year has gone quickly—we’ve learned many
new concepts that will transfer over into second grade.
What’s most important has been all the READING
that has been learned!
I CAN’T EMPHASIZE ENOUGH, TO PLEASE KEEP
YOUR CHILD READING ALL SUMMER!
The Thornton Library has a summer reading
program that will help keep your child reading and
enjoying a variety of age-appropriate reading material.
Math
finds us finishing up fractions, we all enjoyed
learning them!
Unit
4 will find us learning plane shapes, solid figures,
length and measurement.
Also, we will practice subtracting 2-digit
numbers.
Science
is culminating with learning how caterpillars turn into
butterflies. Also,
we will plant some flower and green bean seeds and
enjoy watching them grow.
Please help your child transplant these plants
so they can enjoy them all summer.
Thank you.
Our
writing and spelling skills have improved a lot each
month. We understand what a sentence needs. We have learned nouns, verbs, adjectives, syllables, compound
words and homophones.
The
children worked hard on the Stanford Achievement Tests.
If the test results come back before June, they
will be sent home in the report card.
The
first grade students have had a wonderful, productive
year, full of learning and growing mentally, physically
and emotionally. Thank
you for entrusting your child to me every day.
