Mrs. Stolzenbach’s October Newsletter
We have all settled into first grade and are getting along well. Skills of listening, following directions and working together are some of our daily goals.
READING finds us learning the SHORT VOWELS. We read daily---in our reader, small books, workbook sheets and off the board. The children are learning new words everyday by blending sounds together and it is so WONDERFUL to see this! We’re enjoying the interesting stories and learning many important skills. REMEMBER, NIGHTLY READING IS VERY IMPORTANT!!
MATH finds us learning to add numbers up to 12. We are counting by 10’s, 5’s, and 2’s. Soon we will begin subtraction with numbers 0 – 5.
SCIENCE finds us learning about fire prevention. Pumpkin activities will be starting soon!.
SOCIAL STUDIES will include learning about Christopher Columbus and a discussion of the 50 states.
THANK YOU for covering the reader. The covers really protect and preserve the books. If you have not bought a cover for your child’s book please do so, so our books will last a long time!
Dates to remember:
