SECOND GRADE NEWS
It’s
hard to believe that this school year is quickly
coming to an end.
Where did the time go?
We have worked hard and many new concepts
and skills have been learned.
Usually the public libraries of both
Thornton and Lansing offer reading programs for
the boys and girls to participate in during the
summer. I
would like to encourage you to check these
programs out and keep your child reading this
summer.
The children
have enjoyed many of the stories in our new
reading book this year.
Congratulations to the many children who
participated in the Pizza Hut Book-It program this
year. Many
of the children are enjoying reading chapter books
in the classroom in their free time.
In
math we are finishing our last chapters and then
we will do a variety of review activities.
Remember to have your child practice basic
addition and subtraction facts over the summer
break.
Science
is culminating with our plant unit.
We enjoyed planting pumpkin and sunflower
seeds last week.
We will be recording their growth in our
plant journals.
Please help your child transplant their
plants when they take them home in a few weeks.
Hopefully your son or daughter will have
their own pumpkin in October!
The
children continue to enjoy learning cursive.
Our goal is to learn all the lower case
letters before the end of the school year.
A
special thank you to Mrs. Gbur for all her work
this year as our “head room mother”.
She made sure that we had 3 great classroom
parties, as well as, helped find parents to help
out when needed.
We appreciate all your hard work!
