Mr. Williams |

We began with an introduction to Algebra.
We introduced the concept of variables and
evaluated solved equations, and we learned
the order of operations by asking our students
to Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally. We
will go on working with positive and negative
whole numbers and fractions, and starting in the
2nd quarter we will work with ratio, proportions
and percents. We will end the quarter
working with many real life applications of
percents such as discount and markup,
commission, profit, and get into some banking by
looking at interest.

(Aunt Sally

- We started the year out with chapter 11 in
the back of the book learning about
Earth Science. We learned about the
Earth's plates and how they are involved
with earthquakes, volcanoes, and the
formation of mountains. We will
continue on about Earth Science with weather
and outer space. During the 2nd
quarter we will get into our Life Science
unit by discussing cells, food chains, and
ecosystems, life in the ocean, and we will
end the unit by discussing fossils and how
these are evidence of how species change
over the millions of years. Starting
after the new year, we will get into an in
depth physical science unit.
In 7th grade science we cover Life Science.
We began the year by introducing topics such
as the scientific method, and tools that a
life scientist would use such as a microscope. We
will begin with a study of the cell. We
will finish the first quarter by discussing
heredity and genetics. During the 2nd
quarter we will start our 2nd book of the
series called Life Over Time.
Here we will get into how species have evolved
throughout the ages.

In 8th grade science we cover Physical
Science. We introduced topics such as
the metric system, the scientific
method, and tools that a Physical
Scientist would use such as a graduated
cylinder, and triple beam balance scale.
We spent most of the first semester
learning chemistry beginning with matter and
its general properties. We learned about
the elements and compounds that they can form.
We then will finish the 2nd quarter by looking
at the different kinds of chemical reactions
that can form these compounds.
